Somewhere, in a sun-drenched pasture, lies an idle blob of of equine flesh.
That's my pony.
He's been out there, waiting patiently for me to return for 3 years.
When my 3-year life interruption ended, I really thought he'd roar back to life. But that's not how it's turning out.
My once magnificent steed is now just a blob of dull, fat and lazy equine flesh. He won't get up. When he does begin to stir, it's going to take a while to get him back into shape ...
Meanwhle, life is settling down to our new normal.
I've got projects I'm behind on. Then there's my poor, neglected website. I finally opened up my Facebook page, and discovered posts that apparently just disappeared when they changed things up recently. I know they were old posts, but I didn't expect to lose them entirely! I've got to re-learn the rules of social media that changed while I was away.
At home now, it's strange having only one cat, all closed off on one end of the house. That was kind of pitiful, and after about a week, Bill couldn't stand it anymore. Now he takes Benadryl daily and Squirt has the run of the house. We keep the bedroom door shut, so perhaps we'll have one hairless room where Bill can sleep at night! Squirt has always loved Bill, and Bill loves Squirt, but Bill can't pet him very much. Squirt tries his best though, and daily spends a while in the floor beside Bill, looking up and begging to be petted. Cats seem to just know, don't they?
Squirt moped a bit after Patty's passing, and opening the house up to him was a good distraction. At some point, all the lights came on and he realized, Hey! The competition is gone! Now I get ALL the attention! He gets more rotten everyday.
When our 16-year-old cockapoo passed in 2019, I was devasated. Chloe was good for lots of belly laughs daily. I didn't think that would ever get replaced, but now we have another little rotten goofball, and I am really enjoying him. It's good to laugh again.
And now the holidays are here! We'll actually get to have a Christmas this year! At the end of the year, we get to dog-sit Jake again for 2 weeks. It's going to be interesting to see how just the 2 of them work out. If you want a fun read, go back and read the blogs from January 2024. I "interviewed" each of the cats and the dog to get their perspectives on having to live together for a week or 2. It was eye-opening!
Re-reading articles and blogs, laughing with Squirt ... life is getting back to normal. I'll be back, God willing, in December.
Because I'm about to go find the biggest crowbar I can find, and I intend to pry that dull, fat and lazy pony up out of that pasture.
We might be riding really slow at first, but ride, we will!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving 💞
