My friend, Brenda, says that when she gets to heaven, and God is giving out jobs for us to do, she wants Him to let her have the job of deciding what colors to paint the cats. In case you’ve never noticed, cats come in a dizzying array of patterns and colors. Have you ever tried to pick out just one cat? A cat is not simply a cat … there’s a whole smorgasbord of cats to choose from!
And it’s the same story in all the rest of creation … the same with trees and fish and birds and flowers and everything on our planet … Our Creator loves variety, and He is lavish in everything He creates.
But creativity is more fun when it’s shared, so He created a physical world and universe and gave it order and structure … a perfect home for humans to live and be and create. He was lavish when creating us, too … we’re just like the cats: only one human race, but all different colors, shapes and sizes!
Then he gave us structure, grouping us into families and societies and countries … that’s really important, because creativity without structure is chaos. Then He turned us loose in our world and told us to go fill it up with more of us and our own creativity, because structure without creativity is meaningless.
Humans are the most special among all of the beings He created … angels don’t procreate and they don’t freely create. They serve Him, but they don’t interact with Him in a relational way like humans can. He wanted that with us, because the best and most fun thing for any Artist is to fellowship with other artists!
So here we are! And our creativity serves many purposes …
Some of us like to create esthetic art that inspires and moves and awakens creativity in others. Those are the artists, writers, musicians, etc.
Then there are creatives who invent and build things that make life better and easier for all of us ... people who design cars and washing machines, indoor plumbing (thank you, Lord!) and central heating and air conditioning. And people who plan out systems and schedules to keep traffic flowing and help prevent cars and planes from crashing into each other even though there are millions of us scurrying to and fro around the clock.
But, being the dummies that we are, we fell for the cunning and the lies of a rebellious angel who rebelled against his Creator. He was banished from his lofty position of heaven’s worship leader and cast down to the earth. He has his own kingdom now, ruling over his subjects: the rebellious human race who believed his lies and also rejected the lordship of their Creator.
So now we live in a doomed world under the authority of a doomed leader. Because he has access to both the invisible and visible realms, he understands us better than we understand ourselves. He knows that humans are created to be followers and worshippers. He knows that if he showed himself plainly, that we would reject him outright. So he keeps himself hidden in the darkness. Easy to do now that our sinful world is separated from the Light.
First he divides us, making us view each other with suspicion. Remember, God created lavishly with variety … so what’s up with those others who don’t look or act like us? What’s up with those loose cannon lefties and all that chaos they create? What’s up with those uptight righties wanting to control everything and keep us pushed down and held back? Why do some of us have stuff and others of us are struggling to stay alive?
And now we’ve given him a terrific tool with technology. And he’s using it to isolate us from one another and to distract us from accomplishing work and goals we were designed to achieve. He uses it to show us others and how they live. We see them and look at ourselves and we never measure up, causing us to be discontented and envious. But it’s all a lie. Ultimately he will use it to control us and steer us toward destruction. He hates us and he hates God and he doesn’t intend to go down alone.
I’ll bet that if we had never sinned and had continued living in harmony with our Creator, that right now we’d be enjoying an internet that would connect and unite the whole world.
When Christ returns and establishes His kingdom, the Bible says that all nations will come before His throne, worshipping and displaying their glory before Him. We’d likely be already witnessing and enjoying that if we hadn’t succumbed to the wiles of our own ego and the enemy.
As we learn to walk in Truth and Light, back in relationship with our Creator, we rediscover the peace and freedom found only in Him. We are free again to live and create lavishly!
Our enemy slinks and hides in the darkness, but the resurrection explodes in Light, exposing him and his lies. Easter is the reset for all of us who will believe and follow. In time, justice will be meted out. The visible and invisible realms will come back together under Christ's reign. And we will live and create lavishly alongside our Creator, FOREVER!!
